Magazine Project - Julie

With Julie our project is to create a magazine about a chosen subject, we have to have a front cover and at least one 2 page spread. 

For my magazine I am doing it about my own photography and I am going to include my own reviews on things like cameras and include a lot of photos that I have taken in it.

Below is the research I have done for my magazine. I have looked at loads of different types of magazine layouts and front covers and put them into a mood board. Some of them are very busy, whereas some are quite simple and empty. Then there is some that have 2 colors in their color schemes, then there are others which have a larger variety of colors in them.

Proposal

For this project I have decided to create a magazine about photography and all the different types of photography and different cameras. I will include things like camera reviews, photos of things like buildings, nature, portraits etc.

I have had a look at a lot of different magazine covers and the inside layouts of them. Some of them are very simple and don’t have as much in as others, but they still look pretty good, then there are others that are very full and busy and creative, but sometimes a bit too busy.

After seeing these things about the different magazines I have decided that the target audience for my magazine will be teenagers and young adults. I want to make the cover of my magazine quite simple and not very busy, so I am going to either take or choose a photo that I have taken and have that as the full-page background, then create a font with the title of my magazine and put it over the photo. I may include some other things on the front like what is inside etc. Also, for the inside of my magazine I have decided to make some pages quite busy but not over the top, then other pages that are quite simply laid out.

I am going to take a variety of different photos e.g. fashion photos, nature photos etc. and make different pages about the different photography that the photos match. I am also going to write a camera review about a camera that I like and say the good and bad bits about it, and then I will also put this inside my magazine. When I know all the pages I want to put into my magazine I am then going to create a contents page to go on the back of the front cover of the magazine so that if it was published, readers would know which page to go to for different things or the things that they are most interested in.

I haven’t yet chosen a colour scheme for my magazine because I think I am going to have different colour schemes for each page / each spread, that will match the photos and the information on the pages. For example if the pages were about nature, I would use quite bright/colourful colours because I think nature is quite colourful. By doing this I think it will make my magazine more creative and more eye catching, meaning it will draw more people in and make them want to see more.

Overall, I think my final magazine will be quite full and interesting and it will interest people that are either doing photography as a hobby or as a student, or people that want to start doing photography / beginners of photography.

For the photo below I took a photo of the camera then put it into photoshop and cut the camera from the background so the background was just white.
